Psychotherapist
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, having received my M.A. in Clinical Psychology with a Child and Adolescent Certification from J.F.K. University, in Orinda, CA., in 1986.
I have experience in two California counties providing out-patient therapy with adults, children and adolescents, including 14 years supervising and managing Perinatal Out-patient Intensive Case Management programs for women and children in recovery. I also work at Butte-Glenn Community College in the Addiction Studies Certificate Program from August 1996 to December 2011, teaching 6 of the core classes for ADS Counseling Certification.
My clinical experience has been varied and diverse, including assisting individuals and couples struggling with mild-to-moderate challenges related to anxiety, depression, work and relationship stress, parenting and communication concerns, difficulty coping with life stressors and past or recent traumatic events and experiences.
My orientation to psychotherapy is built upon empathy, compassion, active listening, and empowering individuals to discover their own inner strengths, resources and knowing, increased self-understanding and self-acceptance within the healing process. The modalities I most often utilizing in therapy are; Narrative, Psychodynamic, Client-Centered, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma and Grief Therapy, Somatic Couples Therapy, in addition to Solution-Focused and Strength-based interventions.
