Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

My goal as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is to share with you all that I know about healing and recovery from mental health challenges. I believe that informed patients are better equipped to navigate these challenges, and to be able to live life to its fullest when given opportunities to learn from a trusted caregiver.  Together, we can explore the pros and cons of medications, as well as allow for a discussion and exploration of supplements, nutrition, sleep and stress management, all of which influence our wellbeing.

My journey working in healthcare began some 20+ years ago.  After completing my bachelor’s degree in psychology from UCSD, I began working in women’s reproductive healthcare, supporting at-risk populations in navigating their health care needs and choices.  This transitioned into becoming a Critical Care Registered Nurse in the ICU, multitasking and managing complex cases. It was at this point that I began to recognize a common thread amongst very ill and marginalized populations: that they either had no access to mental health care, or were stigmatized for seeking mental healthcare services.  It was at this time that I decided to return to school to complete a master’s degree focusing on psychiatric and mental healthcare.
