Eating Disorders
Serious mental health condition that is characterized by eating disturbances when it comes to behaviors of eating, body image, and weight regulation. Usually, these disorders are associated with an unhealthy preoccupation with food, weight, and/or body shape that will lead to physical and emotional consequences. Some types of eating disorders are:
Anorexia Nervosa: fear of gaining weight resulting in restricting food intake, excessive exercise, and other behaviors to modify weight gain
Bulimia Nervosa: recurrent episodes of binge eating, then behaviors to prevent weight gains like self-induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives, fasting, or excessive exercise
Binge Eating Disorder (BED): recurrent episodes of binge eating without the compulsive behaviors of bulimia
Other Specific Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED): eating disorders that do not meet the specific criteria of other disorders listed above
